Georgia is one of the fastest-growing economies in Eastern Europe, with a territorial tax system that fully exempts foreign income from Georgian tax. For business owners, freelancers and investors who want to move their tax residence outside the EU, Georgia offers one of the most attractive combinations of low taxes, straightforward residence rules and stable legal certainty.
Why Georgia for asset protection?
Georgia's tax system is based on the territorial principle: only income from Georgian sources is subject to local tax. Foreign income, such as dividends, capital gains and consulting fees from abroad, is tax-free in Georgia. Virtual Zone status gives IT companies 0% corporation tax on revenue from abroad. Georgia is not an EU member and does not levy the global OECD minimum tax, a decisive advantage for structuring outside the reach of the EU.
The tax framework
Georgia levies income tax of 20% on local income, but 0% on foreign income for residents. Corporation tax is 15% (only on distributed profits, the Estonian model). Capital gains tax: 5% on the sale of residential property within two years, 0% on residential property and shares held for more than two years. No inheritance tax, no wealth tax. Small Business status gives self-employed people with annual turnover of up to GEL 500,000 a flat tax of 1%.
Residence and setting up
Georgia offers EU citizens visa-free stays of up to 365 days per entry. A residence permit is available through setting up a company, buying property or investing. Forming a Georgian LLC takes one working day, and the registration fee is 200 lari. Tbilisi has become one of the most popular places for digital nomads and business owners looking for a residence far from the EU.
