Singapore 2026: asset protection

Singapore

Asia's financial centre, territorial taxation and the FIC

Singapore is one of the most important financial centres in the world, with a territorial tax system that exempts foreign income from local tax, a strong common law legal system and one of the most stable political environments in Asia. For Family Investment Companies, holding structures and asset protection in Asia, Singapore offers ideal conditions.

Why Singapore for asset protection?

Singapore taxes only income from Singapore sources; foreign income that is not remitted to Singapore is completely tax-free. Even remitted foreign income is exempt in many cases. The legal system is based on English common law and offers strong protection for property rights. Singapore is not an EU member and not part of the European transparency regime.

The tax framework

Singapore levies corporation tax of 17% on local profits. Foreign profits remain tax-free as long as they are not received in Singapore, and are exempt under certain conditions even afterwards. No capital gains tax, no dividend tax (one-tier tax system), no inheritance tax. Income tax: 0 to 24% (progressive). For Family Investment Companies that invest exclusively outside Singapore, the effective tax burden is usually very low.

Family Investment Company in Singapore

A Singapore FIC is ideal as a holding structure for Asian shareholdings, international investments and family wealth. Variable Capital Companies (VCC) offer additional flexibility for family offices. Combined with a trust or a foundation, it forms a robust, multi-tier asset protection structure for Asian assets.
